Strategy Chains
A chain runs strategies in order: the second starts only after the first has finished, the third after the second, and so on. Use it for “if my morning strategy is done, start the afternoon one”.
Where to find it: left menu → BACKTEST → Strategy Chains.

A chain is different from a portfolio, where all strategies run at the same time.
Build a chain
Section titled “Build a chain”- Click CREATE CHAIN (or Create Your First Chain).
- Type a Chain Name, for example NIFTY morning → afternoon.
- Tick the strategies to include, from your saved strategies. You need at least two.
- Put them in order with the up and down arrows. The chain runs top to bottom, one at a time.
- For each strategy after the first, set when it starts (see below).
- Click SAVE CHAIN.
The first strategy runs on its own entry time, as usual. Each later one waits for the one above it.
When the next strategy starts
Section titled “When the next strategy starts”For each link, the arms when dropdown sets what “finished” means:
| Choice in the dropdown | In plain words |
|---|---|
| Next strategy arms once this one is flat AND cannot re-enter today. | The previous strategy has no open legs and is done for the day. The safest choice, and the default. |
| Next strategy arms as soon as this one has no open legs. | The previous strategy is flat right now, even if it could still re-enter later. |
| Next strategy arms on this one’s first exit, even if other legs stay open. | The previous strategy has closed at least one leg. |
Then:
- + wait … min: minutes to wait after that before the next strategy may enter. It always starts at the beginning of a minute.
- or by (optional): a clock time. At that time the next strategy is released even if the previous one has not finished, so the two can run at the same time. The + wait still applies after it. Leave it empty if the chain should simply stop when the previous strategy never finishes.
The app checks the chain at the start of each minute, before that minute is traded. So an exit during the 11:10 minute is seen at 11:11, and the wait counts from there. The next strategy also needs its own entry time to have come (or still be open) before it can enter.
Example: Strategy A sells a straddle at 09:20 with a 25% stop on each leg. Strategy B is set to arm once A is flat and cannot re-enter today, + wait 5 min. On a day A is stopped out during 11:10 and cannot re-enter, the chain sees it at 11:11 and B may enter from 11:16. On a day A stays open until its 15:15 square-off, B has no time left to trade.
Your chains
Section titled “Your chains”| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Name | The chain’s name. |
| Links | The strategies in order. |
| Status | Not Deployed, or one overall state for the chain while it runs in Live Deployments: Trading, Waiting, Armed, Missed (a link missed its entry window) or Done. It does not say which link is active: open the deployment in Live Deployments for that. Invalid — needs ≥2 links if it lost a member. |
| Updated | When you last changed it. |
| Actions | Backtest, deploy, edit, delete. |
Backtest and deploy
Section titled “Backtest and deploy”- Backtest runs the whole chain over your dates, with each link waiting for the one before, just as it would live.
- Deploy adds the chain to the Live Deployments as one deployment (stopped, in Paper mode).
